Tablets like the “Rosetta Stone” have allowed a previously incomprehensible form of an extinct language to be translated. Scholars believed that the Canaanite language was extinct.

However, the discovery of two clay tablets in Iraq now gives hope to experts.

These clay tablets contain information on the language.

What is Cuneiform?

Cuneiform is one of the earliest forms of writing, in which language impressions were made in wet clay with a stylus.

  • Two old clay tablets that were found in Iraq are written on from top to bottom in cuneiform.
  • Experts think the tablets are almost 4,000 years old.
  • The writing gives information about an extinct “Canaanite” language.”
  • Language experts claim that the Canaanite language has a lot in common with ancient Hebrew.
  • The Amorites came from the land of Canaan.
  • Later, they made a kingdom in Mesopotamia.
  • These discovered tablets have phrases written in their language, which is almost extinct.
  • The Akkadian translations of these phrases are also given next to them.
  • Modern scholars are able to understand the Akkadian language.
  • Thus, experts believe that the Canaanite language is logical.
  • In addition, it has nothing to do with Akkadian.
  • Also, the mystery language’s grammar and vocabulary were looked at.
  • It was found that it was part of the West Semitic language family.
  • Hebrew is also a member of this group of languages, but these days it is only spoken in Israel.
  • And Aramaic, which is only spoken by a small number of people in a few places in the Middle East.
