The Royal Mint is the official maker of coins in the United Kingdom. It has been making coins for more than 1000 years. Recently, it created its biggest-ever gold coin.\

  • This 10,000-pound giant gold coin weighs about 10 kg and is 20 centimetres wide.
  • That’s bigger than the palms of your hands put together.
  • It took about 16 days to make this huge coin!
  • This giant gold coin is part of a special coin collection called the Queen’s Beasts.
  • The collection was inspired by 10 stone statues that Queen Elizabeth II passed by when she became queen of Britain in 1953.
  • Each statue is of an animal and has a special meaning.
  • This giant gold coin has all of the 10 beasts (animals) in one design.
  • They include a lion, a dragon, a unicorn and a horse.
  • The coins from this collection are a big favourite of coin collectors across the world.
