Rescue work underway in Uttarakhand after glacier burst

We read about the glacier burst in Uttarakhand yesterday, which led to massive flooding of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers.

Rescue teams are working round the clock to rescue up to 35 people believed to be trapped in a tunnel, blocked due to the floods. Authorities are also trying to study and understand what caused the glacier burst.

Protests in Myanmar

Thousands of people have been protesting against the military takeover in Myanmar for the last four days. Police have fired rubber bullets and used water cannons on protestors in the capital Nay Pyi Taw.

The military has imposed restrictions like a ban on public gatherings and night curfews. It has also banned many social media sites.

COVID-19 update

106 million cases have been recorded globally till now, out of which 54.9 million have recovered.

The WHO (World Health Organization) mission to China to uncover the origins of the COVID-19 say that there was no large number of cases of the virus in Wuhan before December 2019. The team have not found an origin yet but have ruled out the popular Wuhan lab-leak theory.

UAE’s Hope mission to Mars is about to reach

It is the first of the three Mars missions launched last year (the other two by the US, China) to arrive in Mars’ orbit. Tonight, it will attempt a tricky step to get placed into orbit. The Hope Probe will mark the UAE (United Arab Emirates) as only the fifth country in history to reach the red planet.
