U.S. Women’s football earns equal pay!
Recommended for Football
Athletes of either gender who compete for the United States in international competitions will receive the same compensation.
This law came about after the U.S. women’s football team fought for a long time to get paid the same as the men when they played football abroad.
The bill came about because women in the United States filed a federal case against American football in 2019 for being unfair to women.
Men’s and women’s teams played different roles in international competitions like the World Cup. Thus they were paid differently. Because of these differences, lawmakers looked into whether or not those standards should be written into law
Key facts!
- The Equal Pay for Team USA Act says that all athletes regardless of gender must get the same pay and benefits for their sport.
- The athletes represent the United States of America in international competitions.
- These include more than 50 of the United States national sports.
- It also says that the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee is in charge of keeping an eye on things.
- The bill marks the 50th anniversary of “Title IX,” according to US government officials.
- Title IX is a law that worked to make sports fair for both men and women.
- After the US women’s soccer team won the World Cup, they led the way in leading towards this change.
- They made it clear to everyone that women athletes should get paid the same as men.
- Experts think that by sending this bill to the president, both houses have made it clear that this is the standard for all national teams in all sports.
