US athletes to participate, officials won’t at Beijing Winter Olympics
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will start on February 4. We also recently read about Arif Khan from Kashmir would be the first Indian to be a part of the Winter Olympics.
In a recent press release, the United States (US) has informed that it will not send any government representative to become a part of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. However, American athletes will be allowed to participate in the games. Above all the United States government will extend full support to their athletes.
The US government has taken this decision due to the ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and other human rights abuses in the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
What are human rights?
Human rights are rights we have simply because we exist as human beings – they are not granted by any state.
The ongoing pandemic has impacted sports at an overall level. Beijing Olympics was scheduled for 2021, which is now happening in 2022.
You can know more about Beijing Olympics on their official Website.
