William Wordsworth – English Poet

The month of April is known as National Poetry Writing Month or NaPoWriMo. As we celebrate NaPoWriMo, let’s celebrate a poet each day, and understand their way of writing poetry.

Wordsworth, William, (1770–1850-) was a famous English poet. He is often regarded as the greatest Romantic poet to have written in the English language. He would frequently write about the wonders of nature. In addition to the value of one’s own experiences in his poetry.

Legacy of William Wordsworth

Wordsworth spent the better part of his life writing his epic poem “The Prelude.” It’s a memoir detailing his life from childhood to adulthood. The majority of his other poems are autobiographical.

Wordsworth’s friendship with poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge is well-known. They collaborated on “Lyrical Ballads,” a compilation of poetry that has since become a classic of English literature.

Wordsworth’s political views were just as well-known as his poetry. Further, he backed the French Revolution and held the ideals of liberty and equality for all.

During his lifetime, Wordsworth’s literary achievements were mostly unrecognised despite his significance. His poetry didn’t gain much attention till after he passed away.

To sum up, William Wordsworth was a significant English poet who wrote about the wonders of nature and the significance of introspection. In addition to his political ideas and friendship with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, his poem “The Prelude” has brought him widespread fame. Even though he didn’t get much credit while he was alive.
