18-year-old gets first single hand transplant!

The first case of its kind to be performed in India was on an 18-year-old girl who received a unilateral hand transplant.

What is organ transplant?

Organ transplant is a medical procedure in which a missing organ is put into the body of a person who needs it.

Samya was born without her right hand. She lives in the city of Baruch in the Indian state of Gujarat. She recently underwent surgery that was a success.

  • Samya Mansoori is pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) programme at a local university.
  • After completing BCA she aspires to complete the Master in Computer Applications programme.
  • She dreams of joining the police force’s cyber squad unit.
  • She believes that at the age of 18, she received her best birthday present in the form of a hand transplant.
  • According to the medical authorities where she underwent the transplant, this was the first transplant of its kind in India.
  • She feels thrilled with the success of the surgery.
  • There are a lot of tasks that require her to use her hands.
  • When she heard from the authorities about the transplant she was filled with mixed emotions.
  • She claimed, “She even had dreams that she was doing a lot of things using both her hands like driving.”
  • Samya says, “When she was younger, her classmates made fun of her because she was born without a hand.”
  • Now Samya encourages others to donate organs in order to save lives.
