- Ayushman Bharat Yogna is a government-sponsored health insurance programme.
- The government initiative intends to build 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centres (HWC) across the nation. The primary objective is to make healthcare accessible to the population at large.
- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started Ayushman Bharat Yogna in 2017 as a flagship programme of the government in order to accomplish the goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
- Both maternal and child health, as well as non-communicable diseases, are covered by HWCs. They also include free medicines and diagnostic tests, as well as a health insurance policy of Rs 5Lakh per family per year for hospitalisation.
- The government hopes to meet the health care needs of more than 10 crore vulnerable low-income families through this initiative.
