Bangladesh defeats England in the first T20I!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

In the inaugural T20I match between Bangladesh and England, Bangladesh defeated England with a six-wicket victory. The match took place in Chattogram, Bangladesh.

Bangladesh was able to attain its target of 157 with two overs to spare. All thanks to the excellent performance of their opening batsman, Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Najmul scored 51 runs off of 30 balls. Shanto and Towhid Hridoy added 65 runs to their partnership for the third wicket.

On Sunday, the second of three T20I matches will take place at Mirpur, Bangladesh.

Key highlights!

  • England’s captain Jos Buttler and Phil Salt raced to 80 runs after 10 overs.
  • Bangladesh’s seamers came back at the finish, allowing only 21 runs from the final four overs to restrict England to 156-6.
  • Buttler struck a brilliant 67 from 42 balls after being dropped by Shakib Al Hasan on 19.
  • But England struggled to make the most of their aggressive start after both Buttler and Ben Duckett fell in consecutive deliveries.
  • Hasan Mahmud, a seamer, led the attack with a total of two wickets and twenty-six runs off of his four overs.
  • In their response, Bangladesh reached a score of 54-2 attacking England’s seamers.
  • They made the most of the powerplay that was given to them after six overs.
  • Shanto took advantage of this by hitting four straight boundaries within the first over bowled by Mark Wood.
  • Simultaneously England’s seamers battled to adjust to the sluggish ground.
  • After that, Captain Shakib kept his cool and relied on his years of experience to guide his team to win and finish the game undefeated on 34.
