China launches world’s fastest train
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
China has launched the world’s fastest train. This train is in Qingdao city and can reach speeds of 600 kilometres per hour.
It is a bullet train that uses maglev (magnetic levitation) technology. Maglev trains have no wheels but instead, use high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technology. It uses magnets that allow it to “hover”, making it look like the train is floating above its tracks. This method also helps the train to travel faster.
The train was developed by the government company China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation. This ‘world’s fastest train’ also creates less noise pollution and needs less maintenance.
High-speed trains in China
China is a huge country. So, it is building many more high-speed trains like this to connect the different parts of the country. But currently, it has only one maglev train line – the Shanghai maglev train or Shanghai Transrapid. Till now, it had been the fastest commercial electric train in the world.
