- A company called Khethworks is trying to fix the problem by using solar energy.
- Khethworks has developed a solar-powered irrigation system. It allows farmers to water their crops without depending on seasonal rains or expensive fuel.
- It started as a project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US and was registered as a company in Pune in 2016.
India gets about 300 days of sun in a year and solar power is plentiful. Solar energy production has increased immensely in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been encouraging the move into renewable energy.
