Last “Blood Moon” Eclipse Until 2025!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

A total lunar eclipse or “Blood Moon” that can be seen from Earth will take place on November 8th.

What is a total lunar eclipse?

A total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon and casts its shadow across the Moon’s surface.

This is because of a strange reddish shade the full moon takes on. It is an excellent opportunity for the whole family to witness a spectacular astronomical phenomenon.

Also one could watch the blood moon without the use of any binoculars or other specialised equipment.

Key facts!

  • The totality of the eclipse will last for a leisurely 1 hour and 25 minutes.
  • Following this week’s complete lunar eclipse, the next one won’t occur again until 13-14 March 2025.
  • In addition, the eclipse will be visible to a significant section of the world’s population.
  • Australia, New Zealand, and Asia will see the eclipse on November 8th.
  • North Americans and South Americans will see the eclipse before sunrise on November 8.
  • The Arctic, Antarctica, Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans will also see portions of the eclipse.
  • The ones with binoculars will be able to observe the planet Uranus.
  • People who don’t have binoculars will still be able to view Jupiter and Saturn above the blood moon.
  • This is because Jupiter and Saturn are closer to Earth than the moon.
