National Education Day!Today is National Education Day. We celebrate this day every year, on the birth anniversary of Maulana Azad - independent India's first Minister of Education.

This day has been celebrated every year since 2008.

Key facts!

We celebrate this day to spread awareness about the importance of education.
 	In addition to commemorating Maulana Azad's contribution to education in the country.
 	On this day, educational institutions in the country organise seminars, workshops, and literary competitions to discuss the importance of literacy.
 	Maulana Azad (Abul Kalam Azad) was a freedom fighter.
 	He was also a great believer in the importance of education.
 	He advocated for the education of women, universal primary education, and compulsory education for all children up to the age of 14.
 	During his tenure, Maulana Azad established the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi, Sahitya Akademi and more.
 	He also established the first IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), IISc (Indian Institute of Science), School of Planning and Architecture and the University Grants Commission.
 	Maulana Azad was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1992 for his contribution to education and the freedom movement.
 	Many national educational institutions are also named in his honour.
