No more confusion: Dictionary now in your language!

Recommended for Education

Do you know that the Indian government is working hard to create dictionaries with technical words in 10 different Indian languages? The Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) is working under the Union Ministry of Education to create these dictionaries.

These dictionaries will have about 5,000 words each. Importantly, these dictionaries will help students study science and technical subjects in their own language, such as Bodo, Santhali, Dogri, and Kashmiri.

Important Details

  • These languages are underrepresented in the learning landscape because there is a lack of study material in them due to a shortage of scientific and technical terms. That’s why the CSTT is focusing on 15 different subjects, such as computer science, mathematics, and economics, to create technical and scientific terminology.
  • The dictionaries will be distributed to different educational institutions like State education boards, universities, engineering institutes, and the National Testing Agency to aid in preparation of content.
  • The move is especially important because the National Education Policy 2020 has advocated the use of regional languages in both school and college education.
  • This means that more students will be able to learn and understand subjects in their own language. Isn’t that cool? The dictionaries will be digital and free of cost, which means that more and more students will have access to them.
  • So, let’s give a big round of applause to the Indian government for taking such a fantastic step to make education more accessible to all students in different languages!
