See the first solar eclipse of 2020 on 21 June

Do you know what a solar eclipse is? It happens when the Moon is directly between the Earth and the Sun. With all three in a straight line, the Moon fully or partially (partly) covers the Sun. There are three main types of solar eclipses: total, partial and annular.
- In a total eclipse, the Sun is completely blocked.
- In a partial eclipse, the Sun is partly blocked out.
- In an annular eclipse, the Moon blocks the centre of the Sun, leaving a visible ring of light in the sky.
The first solar eclipse of 2020 is set to take place on 21 June. This will be an annular solar eclipse. The eclipse will be visible from much of Asia, Africa, the Pacific, the Indian Ocean, parts of Europe and Australia. In India, the solar eclipse will start at 9:15 a.m. and will go on until 3:04 p.m on 21 June. It will be most visible at 12:10 p.m. Never look at a solar eclipse directly. You must wear special eyeglasses, binoculars, box projector or a telescope to safely view it. There will only be two solar eclipses this year. The second one, a total solar eclipse, will take place on 14 December.
