The Headies honours Afrobeats musicians!

Nigerian entertainer Ayo Animashaun founded the Headies in 2006. The show first aired outside Nigeria on September 4, 2022.

Hip Hop World Magazine covered artists, songs, and music trends regularly. The Hip Hop World Awards were renamed The Headies after its 2006 debut.

What is a Headie?

A “Headie” is a figurine in the shape of a face that is coated in 21-karat gold.

In 2007, the Headies expanded to become an entertainment hub that was available around the clock.

Ayo Animashaun is a Nigerian entertainment businessman. He founded the Headies in 2006 to honour the best in Afrobeats and African music. The show first aired outside Nigeria on September 4, 2022.

Animashaun was presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring the show to the US for the first time. Thus, after 14 successful years in west Africa, he felt it was time to take the event globally.
