The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) runs World Asthma Day. WHO and GINA work together for this day. They started this day in 1993 to make people more aware of asthma. Every year in May, people around the world learn more about asthma.

Significance of World Asthma Day!

• World Asthma Day is celebrated annually by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA).
• Global asthma awareness and treatment are among the goals of this initiative.
• The day also aims at raising awareness and providing care and support for individuals who are affected by asthma.
• 1998 marked the inaugural commemoration of World Asthma Day.
• The theme for World Asthma Day 2023 is “Uncovering Asthma Misconceptions.”
• This year’s theme aims to raise awareness about the common myths and misunderstandings surrounding asthma, and the importance of debunking them.
• It also highlights the need for proper education and knowledge to help people manage their asthma effectively.
• And as a result improve their quality of life.
• Remember, with the right information and support, living with asthma can be easier than you might think!

What is Asthma?

• Asthma is a chronic illness of the airways of the lungs that affects a large number of people.
• Genetic and environmental variables such as an allergy to pollen generated by flowers (genetic) and air pollution (environmental) could be considered responsible for the development of asthma (environmental).
