Curious Times in conversation with Shalini Shukla

Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also try to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.

So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Shalini Shukla . She is the Primary Coodinator of Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Kanpur. It aims at the all-round development of the child/individual. It focuses on the current needs and aspirations of a society, its inherent values, concerns as well as broad human ideals.

When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator?

My journey in the field of education started almost 12 years ago. I have chosen this profession by choice because I am passionate about Teaching. The constant will to learn and grow in terms of knowledge has motivated me to join the teaching fraternity.

Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success?

There were many challenges which I faced during my career journey. Few amongst them were balancing the diverse learning needs of the students, making decisions strategically and technology of course. In order to overcome the challenges, I started keeping myself organized. I ensured myself that I am always ready in advance before stepping into the classroom. I started participating in various webinars, workshops and socio- emotional events. The activities which I learnt through these, became an integral part of my lesson plans. I started channelizing the energy of my brilliant and hyper active students. My classes became more of peer learning classes and eventually I changed my role from a teacher to a facilitator.

What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes?

A lot of changes have been observed in the field of education during the recent times. Most important of all, the National Education Policy 2020, has brought an immense shift in the mindset of the educators. The innovative pedagogies offered by the NEP has transformed the entire teaching learning process. The entire education fraternity has now started working on skill-based learning. The days of rote learning will soon be gone. Yes, I am happy with this transformation in the field of education and look forward to this multi facet framework which will provide quality education to our future citizens.

What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this?

Changing times warrant a change in the education options that are available to students. I think the time has come to radically evaluate existing programmers and reinvent them as needed. If an educational institution has to be at the zenith, its approach has to be student centric. The students should be provided with flexible paths and more subjects. Changes in examination pattern, more of blended learning, flipped classrooms and BYOD (Bring your own device) for learning should be the new normal in the upcoming years. All stakeholders have vital roles to play in the good interest of students, amongst them parents are the most important stakeholders. Parents’ involvement in a child’s development is crucial. No educational institution can be successful without the support of parents. Their feedback and support are of utmost importance for an institution.
