Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also are trying to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.

So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Anupama Mehra. She is the Principal of the Navy Children School, Goa. The school believes in achieving high academic standards while giving children a broad and creative curriculum rich in art, music, drama and physical education.

Also watch the one-on-one conversation of Anupama Mehra with Deepti Beri, Director at Curious Times at the end of this article.

When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator? It started twenty years ago. I have always been a good corporate trainer and working with my own children made me step into education too.

Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success? I moved a lot of schools due to the frequent transfers of my spouse. So I saw the best and the worst in terms of my experience as an educator. On one account, I can say I adapted faster and it helped me work better with different teams. On the other side, I could see what was wrong with the system. To be honest, as an educationist, I do not like “corporate-ising” the education sector and in education, everything is not about making money. So my dilemma was around the numbers game and my personal beliefs as a visionary, educationist and policymaker. I worked in a lot of private schools, where sometimes, the management gave educationists an upper hand, while in some others, the management was heavily numbers-driven. These challenges gave me the strength to say what works for me and what does not and how I can stay true to my mission.

What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes? The field of education is far more fluid and flexible now than it used to be earlier. We are more open and moving away from the traditional concept of education.

What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this? I feel that there should be no subject barriers in school. There should also be vocational training in school, no board exams, and sustainable development of education.

Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow. Aspiring teachers should come into this profession if they feel deeply. It is important to feel strongly as a changemaker. Today’s teacher has to learn like never before.

Share your message for your and Curious Times students. School may have stopped, education has not! Take complete onus for your education. All students today are going through a beautiful change….adapt to it!! Most importantly, you don’t have to be like someone else, don’t copy your peers, just be the best version of yourself. Be Yourself.
