Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also are trying to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.

So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Ms. Reena Rajpal. She is the Principal of the DLDAV Model School, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi. The school delivers holistic education to its children and provides an educational environment that focuses on the development of individual potential, and encourages originality in thought and action.

When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator? I hail from an Arya Samaji family in which education was given supreme importance. During the early 20th century, when women’s edification was ignored, my grandmother had the courage to go for higher education. This legacy continued among the women in my family and my mother herself also excelled as the Vice-Principal of her school. Moreover, my father-in-law, a retired colonel, had also held a Principal’s position in various military schools. It was, thus, only natural that I decided to pursue a career in the field of education.

Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success? Challenges go hand in hand with life and as an educationist, we tell our students to turn challenges into opportunities. So, when your attitude is to accept every situation as it comes, you tend to turn it into a stepping stone. You know that all your children are looking up to you and you can’t afford to let them down. For instance, last year, turning the entire school into a virtual format was a challenge, but with sheer determination and great perseverance, we could do a wonderful job. It also led to a tremendous amount of research and learning.

What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes? Last year, the conventional meaning of school changed and now we have divided it into “online” and “offline” schools. But on looking back, I am proud to say that we can pat our backs knowing that the amount of learning which took place for students, teachers and parents could not have been possible if this challenge had not come knocking at our doors. As I said earlier, it’s the attitude that matters the most. So yes, I am happy with the way we have accepted all these changes.

What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this? Blended learning is here to stay. Everyone has realized the huge advantages that technology can bring to education. So, if all the stakeholders contribute to this process of blended learning meaningfully, then the Indian Education system will definitely become more progressive and dynamic.

Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow. Once you enter this profession The work that you and your team have to do has to be great in quality as well as quantum. Last year, the virtual platform was new to us and could have been a setback. But the world needs to appreciate that turning difficulty into opportunity are not just words. So, you have to become the people who can prove this to be true.

Share your message for your and Curious Times students. Always try to be the best version of yourselves and learn to give and share.
