Peter Handke, Olga Tokarczuk win Literature Nobel for 2019, 2018

The Nobel Committee has announced the Nobel Prize for Literature for the years 2019 and 2018. Austrian author Peter Handke has won this year’s prize while Polish author Olga Tokarczuk will receive the prize for 2018.

The 2018 literature Nobel was postponed last year due to the controversy surrounding a member of the Swedish Academy.

  • The Nobel committee said that Austrian author Peter Handke won “for an influential work that with linguistic ingenuity has explored the periphery and the specificity of human experience”.
  • Mr Handke published his first novel Die Hornissen in 1966.
  • Meanwhile, on Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, the committee said she has been chosen “for a narrative imagination that with encyclopedic passion represents the crossing of boundaries as a form of life,”.
  • Ms Tokarczuk made her debut as a fiction writer 1993 with Podróz ludzi Księgi (‘The Journey of the Book-People’).

Tomorrow, they will announce the coveted Nobel Peace Prize. They have previously announced the prize for Medicine, Physics and Chemistry.
