The month of April is known as National Poetry Writing Month or NaPoWriMo. As we celebrate NaPoWriMo, let’s celebrate a poet each day, and understand their way of writing poetry.

Legacy of Rosemonde Gérard

Rosemonde Gérard was a French author, lyricist, and playwright. She lived from 1871 until 1953. Her accomplishments in French literature and her work as a feminist activist lives on!

Gérard was a skilled writer, but her most well-known piece of work is a song titled “The Eternal Song.” The song has been rendered into a great number of languages. Additionally, Gérard was a feminist and a strong supporter of equal rights for women.

Further, she was an important figure in the establishment of the League for the Rights of Women. It was an organisation that fought for the advancement of women’s rights in France. The legacy that Gérard left behind continues to motivate countless generations of women and writers all over the globe.

Her body of work has been translated into many languages. Importantly, it is still held in high regard by those who study and appreciate literature.

Both her life and his body of work serve as a timely reminder of the vital role that literature plays in society and the transformative potential of political engagement.
