A Brave Heart in a Big World

In Iran, a girl named Shirin Ebadi grew up in a family filled with scholars. From a young age, her environment, brimming with love and wisdom, shaped her into a person of strength and compassion.

Shirin’s childhood was a tapestry of learning and kindness, setting the foundation for her future as a hero in the field of human rights.

A Journey of Learning

Shirin embarked on her educational journey with enthusiasm and determination. After moving to Tehran as a young child, she attended Firuzkuhi primary school, progressing through Anoshiravn Dadgar and Reza Shah Kabir secondary schools.

Excelling in her studies, Shirin’s thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. Her academic prowess led her to the University of Tehran, where she pursued a degree in law, showcasing her brilliance and dedication.

A Path to Justice

Upon completing her law degree, Shirin Ebadi achieved a groundbreaking feat by becoming one of Iran’s first female judges. She served with distinction, embodying the principles of fairness and justice in her role. However, the path was not smooth.

After the 1979 revolution, Shirin faced a significant setback when new laws prevented women from serving as judges. Unbowed by this challenge, she turned her focus to writing and advocating, beginning a new chapter in her journey as a defender of human rights and a voice for the marginalized.
