You are the Minister of Education. What changes would you make in the current education system?

Education: Empowering Change

“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela

The Indian Education system is quite an old one but still exists. Over time, the education system has moved from strength to strength yet somehow failed to reach its full potential and achieve its objective. We can’t ignore the fact that the highest number of academic related suicides happen in our country.

With every year, more students are falling prey to depression and anxiety because of the constant pressure put on them about grades and career decisions.

Challenges Faced

  • Grading System: Our Education system faces a lot of problems that do not let it prosper and help children succeed in life. The biggest problem it has to face is its poor grading system. It judges the intelligence of the student on the basis of academic which is the form of Exam papers.
    • Consequently many children strive to get good marks rather than actually understanding and grasping the concept efficiently..
  • Theory Over Practice:Furthermore, we see how the education system focuses on the theory more and only gives a little percentage to practicals. .
  • Neglect of Extracurriculars:  Due to which, they run after the bookish knowledge and fail to apply that to the real world. It emphazises importances of studying sidelining sports and arts.

Proposed Solutions

  1. Skill-Based Learning

    • It should focus on the skill development of the child. They must not only give importance to grades and marks but to the analytical and creative skills.
    • It helps in identifying the strengths of the child and can also the child shines and achieves success in that particular feild.
  2. Gender-Neutral Education

    • The major change that has to be brought is that particular subjects like engineering, technical subjects which are considered to be the strengths of men should be more accessible to women.
    • Awareness should be raised about importance of girl education because girls are mostly stereotyped to only focus on household work.
  3. Teacher Training

    • Most of the teachers are not skilled or trained enough to teach students especially in rural areas. I would suggest to make some qualifications and trainings compulsory for a person to become a teacher and teach children.
  4. Compulsory Career Counseling

    • This helps the student analyse and decide what profession should they achieve because many children are confused and are not aware about the various job opportunities present..
  5. Mandatory Sports and Arts

    • This helps develop creative skills and is also way for children to relive stress and indulge in physical activity. It will improve their mental health and also enable them to perform better in academics as well.

By implementing these reforms, we can transform the education system into a nurturing environment that empowers students to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.
