Kerala Education Minister launches audiobooks

Kerala Education Minister launches audiobooks for classes 10 and 12.

Education Minister of Kerala, V. Sivankutty has released audiobooks for classes 10 and 12. The audiobooks are a part of First Bell Digital Classes started by the Kerala Education Department.

Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education(KITE) is an initiative by the government of Kerala to promote the educational institutions in the state of Kerala. This initiative helps the institutions in terms of content development, device connectivity and Information and technology. It also includes the introduction of e-learning, e-governance and other activities.

Launch of audiobooks

As a step forward to the First Bell Digital Classes, the Kerala Education Minister has launched audiobooks for classes 10 and 12. They are designed for revision purposes for classes 10 and 12.

The audiobooks are designed in a way such that revision of all subjects of the 10th class can be completed within 10 hours. Class 12 audiobooks include all subjects with a duration of 1.5 hours per subject. They will be available from 21 February.

Audiobooks can be heard like listening to a radio programme and they are easily downloadable in mp3 format. Won’t it be easy to just listen to your course and remind yourselves of what you have studied in the entire year?

Benefits of audiobooks

Audiobooks are helpful for visually-impaired children. The audiobooks are beneficial for them to understand the concepts easily. They are downloadable through QR codes as well. The KITE has issued directions to extend internet facilities in schools so that the students could download the audiobooks.

Initiatives by KITE

KITE led First Bell Digital Classes has completed the telecast of 10,000 classes to date. It also includes the classes for Kannada and Tamil medium students along with English medium classes. They also included audiobooks in the curriculum for visually challenged kids and sign adapted classes for the students who have hearing problems.

Audiobooks by CIET

Other than Kerala Education Ministry, Central Institute of Educational Technology(CIET) has released audiobooks for all the classes from classes 1 to 12. They have also issued audiobooks for children who are visually challenged or who have hearing problems. While reading the books, the children with special needs can navigate through the audiobook with the help of tags, just like normal students.

Digital education is expanding, and audiobooks have climbed one step upwards. This will make learning fun and easy.
