Super Worm Moon lights up the night sky
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
We have read about the Super Snow Moon in February. This month’s full Moon is another supermoon and it will be visible for you to view.
- This month, it is called the Super Worm Moon and it occurred over Sunday and Monday but will be visible till Wednesday, according to NASA.
- It is called Super Worm Moon because it signifies the start of the spring season – when the snow melts and earthworms and other creatures start to appear. It is also known as the Crow Moon, the Crust Moon, the Sap Moon, the Lenten Moon and the Sugar Moon.
- A supermoon happens when a full Moon comes closest to Earth. During a supermoon, the Moon appears 14% bigger and 30% brighter than it usually does.
What is special about the full Moons this year?
- Normally, there are 12 full moons in a year because one occurs each month.
- However, this year, October will have two full moons, once on 1 October and then again on 31 October (Halloween). This event is known as a “blue moon.”
- 2020 will also have 4 supermoons – the next one is on 7 April (8 April for India).
