The Language of Love & Love alone!!!

The greatest love of mine has been my mother tongue, Malayalam. I am always enchanted by the way its nuances resonate with my soul and express my bliss of being myself. The language served as an unbreakable bridge across which all my relationships flourished. Even though I loved learning English too, I had not spent much time to gain a mastery over the language.

When I was in class 12, our English teacher had to take a long leave from service and everyone of us was eagerly waiting for the new teacher. The day she stepped into my life was indeed a turning point. Bhawna ma’am, hailing from a completely different state, knew languages different from mine-she knew great English and affectionate Hindi. The sweet tone with which she addressed every student as ‘betta’ and smiled through her twinkling eyes was enough for me to fall in love with her and the language that she taught. All through the lovely days that followed, she gently unveiled the gems of English literature and since then John Keats , Pablo Neruda, Rumi … have been singing in my heart.

However, suddenly everything came to an end as the classes were wrapped up for the final examinations. Just after the examinations, the world came to a stand-still due to the most unfortunate pandemic. But then being at home, I read, heard and wrote English. I even made my first effort at blogging so as to hone my skills. Overcoming my reservations, I sent the link to the one who flaired my interest to do that all. The moment she blessed my endeavour with her inspiring words and kind gesture, I was really moved into tears.

Although it has been a long time since we met , she still makes me feel that she will always be there for me. Reflecting on the invaluable time I have spent with my dearest Bhawna ma’am, I am now able to understand that English , Malayalam and all other languages are awesome rivers flowing into the single eternal sea of love-the universal language of mankind.

Dear Bhawna teacher,

शिक्षक दिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं
