Together Towards True Happiness

All of us wish for success, money and fame. We spend the entirety of our lives running behind ‘achievements’, but are we really happy in this tech-driven world? The fact that we’ve to achieve more and more has become our mindset, policy and daily routine! During this long run, we forsake certain things on the path- our wellbeing, family, friends and neighbors…the list goes on forever. We tend to shrink down these necessities into mechanical devices! So, I would like to provide a few solutions to address the problem of mechanical lives and reduction in the happiness index of the world.

The primary factor that promotes happiness is equality. This provision is a free gift to all, regardless of gender or profession. So, the first solution is to promote equality all around the world. Both males and females must receive equal pay, opportunities, working hours and dignity, no matter what profession they practice. Office activities must be constrained to working hours after which families must spend quality time together. This increases the energy and efficiency levels of employees and hence, work-productivity increases. A single parent must work in families with tender-aged children which ensures proper care and attention.

The next solution relates to reforms in the education system. Young children should be allowed to play and foster their imagination. Adolescents may choose their favorite subjects for learning which can be based on future career plans, supported by mentors. When children learn what they love, it makes the process more fruitful. Children must acquire part time jobs after completing basic education and cannot possess social media handles till then.

All families must cultivate crops at home to promote healthy eating habits. Children must be taught to keep their environment clean and healthy. Regular physical activity can prosper good health. Here, a global #fitfor30 challenge would be ideally suitable. It is simply an app/website which will be designed to monitor routine 30-minute workouts.

There are hundreds of languages around the world but a smile speaks them all. Therefore, ‘Smile to greet’ would be a wonderful solution wherein people share smiles even to strangers because peace begins with a smile and happiness begins with peace.

I would like to conclude by quoting the words of Charles Spurgeon – “It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy that makes happiness.”
