Ed Leader – Sr. Carmen, St. Joseph’s School, Abu Dhabi

Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also try to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.

So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Sr. Carmen. She is the Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Abu Dhabi. The school aims to orient each child individually through the educational process so that he can realise his maximum potential.

Question: When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator?
Answer: My passion for learning and love of children made me step into the world of education. Teachers make a difference in the lives of the children-create a lasting impression and this is truly a motivation.

Question: Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success?
Answer:A challenge I have faced is elevating the performance of students. Another is keeping oneself abreast with the latest technology. But thankfully, I have been working to overcome them.

Question: What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes?
Answer:There has been a change of the old system where teachers were the facilitator and students were the centre of learning. Now, the system is different. From a lecture method, the mode of education has become more tech-savvy.

Question: What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this?
Answer:I would like to see more focus on life skills and application of knowledge rather than the standard testing. This would benefit everyone.

Question: Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow.
Answer:The teacher is an educator and a Mentor. Bring out the best in your students. Be a good role model. Our most influential role as an educator is that of who we are as a person.

Question:Share your message for your and Curious Times students.
Answer: What you give, you will get back, be it respect, love, humility, or service. Be the best you can be.
