Raksha Bandhan

Happy Raksha Bandhan

Happy Raksha Bandhan!

Raksha Bandhan is a popular festival which is celebrated in India by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. Did you know, people in some other parts of South Asia and Hindu-influenced communities in the world also celebrate Raksha Bandhan?

Raksha Bandhan is observed on the last day of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Shraavana which typically falls in August. This year, that day falls on 11th August.

Share you bond with your sibling, share what it means to you.

On this day, sisters of all ages tie a talisman or amulet, called the Rakhi, around the wrists of their brothers. This can be followed by a small puja (ritual) or the feeding of sweets.

Did you make a Rakhi yourself? Did your sister tie a Rakhi? Do you have some special or funny memories to share?
