New Google campus built with dragon scale solar skin

A new Google campus is built with solar panels inspired by dragon scale solar skin. The campus is working with green energy.

The new Google campus, Bay View campus in Mountain View opened this month and it is built on 42 acres of Silicon Valley.

Google’s Bay View campus

On the campus, two office buildings are built on 1.1 million square feet.  The roof of the building was created with dragon scale solar skin. The buildings are designed by architects at Bjarke Ingels Group, Heatherwick Studio and Google’s design team.

What is dragon scale solar skin?

Dragon scale solar skin is a unique design made up of 90,000 silver solar panels. It has the capacity to generate 7 megawatts of energy.

It is the first time that a sustainable workplace has been designed, said Google Team. The team stated that the company has the goal to work on carbon-free energy by 2030. Also, the nearby wind farms will provide the campus with carbon-free energy, 90% of the time.

Features of the Bay View Campus

The Bay View Google campus is 100% electric wherein kitchens are electric in order to reduce carbon emissions.

According to Google, the interior of the new building emphasize the future of work. It incorporates biophilic design principles and it includes greenery, natural daylight and outside views to help in improving the health of people.

The ventilation system at the campus uses 100% fresh air. The campus includes 7.3 acres of high-value natural areas. These areas include wet meadows and woodlands.
