Munich’s Solar-Powered Buses!
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Solar-Powered Buses will soon be a reality in the city of Munich. This will save money, cut down on pollution, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company Sono Motors in partnership with Munich Transport Company (MVG) will turn this idea into reality. The bus will be used for daily transportation.
Benefits of Solar-Powered Buses!
- It is hoped that the solar-powered buses will save diesel fuel each year. As per experts, this implies that CO2 emissions could be reduced by almost 6.5 tonnes.
- There are solar panels on the roof of solar-powered buses that give off more than 2,000 watts. These panels power the battery of the car and the steering system of the trailer. They also charge the battery of the car.
- Also, solar electricity helps keep the battery’s energy supply stable. This saves diesel. This makes the battery last longer and also cuts down on maintenance costs.
- This isn’t the only use for Sono Motors Solar Technology. It could also be used to power the high voltage battery of an electric bus. This will be the first time that Sono’s solar systems will be used on public transportation.
Future of Solar-Powered Buses!
Experts believe that solar cells and power electronics are expected to get better in the future. It’s also possible to save up to 2,000 tonnes of CO2 a year by switching to buses that don’t emit as much CO2.
Munich has been working on getting all of their buses to run on electric power, and they plan to do it soon. Sunlight can be used to make the process even more environmentally friendly, while also extending the range of the e-bus.
