Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal, Principal, BNG International School joins Curious Times to celebrate Teachers Day and shares his views on Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining Future! He is an eminent Leader and Educationist and has been inspiring students and future generation of teachers.

Curious Times, the leading school newspaper and children’s website is pleased to bring perspectives of Senior Educationists and teachers to our readers on Teachers Day 2022. Over the past 3 years a lot has changed in the education sector, teaching methods, curricula, use of technology, introduction of NEP 2020, emphasis on mental wellbeing of children and how schools shape careers of next the generation. We believe that the energy and enthusiasm of the leaders to adapt to these changes will help not just leading through the crisis of learning gaps but also reimagining the future of education.

Here is our conversation with Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal, BNG International School, Meerut:

Curious Times: Technology has brought about a shift in the teaching and learning ecosystem. As you reimagine future, what, in your opinion, would be the role of technology and what would be the role of teachers?

Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal: The role of technology is to enhance and increase the overall knowledge and imagination amongst children. And the role of teachers is to create a loving and caring atmosphere with sharing of techniques.

Curious Times: NEP 2020 puts a lot of emphasis on skilling and co-curricular activities. How will this have a positive impact on learning outcomes in the future?

Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal: The overall emphasis is to teach our children through experiential learning. Children should not be overburdened and there has to be interest brought in our teaching methodologies.

Curious Times: What role can schools play in making students reach their potential careers?

Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal: School is a place where a child gets all kind of exposures, be it education, games and sports, or extra co-Curricular Activities. School is a unique place to build a blooming personality in a child requires for an aspiring career.

Curious Times: The pressures in the 21st century are different from earlier times. What will be the role of schools and teachers in mental wellbeing of students going forward?

Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal: It has been noticed that the children do not have interest in attending the schools they find different ways of not going and not attending the schools. it is important for the teaching community to bring a kind of love and affection in the children and to tell them that importance of school education and their teaching. The bottom line is the children should love to go to school.

Curious Times: As you reimagine the future, how can schools become inclusive and accommodate students from all ethnicities or with different abilities?

Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal: As I said school is a place where all children should feel a sense of love and affection from their teachers and other members with all sorts of children attending the classes. There has to be a feel of parallelism, cooperation and coordination among all children maybe the especially abled one or the normal ones.

Curious Times: Schools prepare children for higher education. Should competitive exams have a different curriculum than schools?
Coaching classes and ed-tech companies have been supplementing the school education. What do you think should be their role?

Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal: No, competitive exams should have the same syllabus to that of a school. There is absolutely no need for going any way beyond the stretch of the school curriculum. I sincerely feel that a proper marking system in the competitive examinations will surely be helpful and the children with the same syllabus they studied in their Senior Secondary classes. They appear for the competitive examinations with more confidence. Coaching classes and ed-tech companies can also contribute in the improvement of the knowledge of a child but not at the cost of a school education

Mr. Sanjeev Aggarwal: Yes, our children should be a matter of pride for us. They deserve the best in this world. They deserve a level of confidence, a better personality to make them a confident human being. Our children should be motivated, they should be encouraged, they may have different qualities, but all of their qualities should be nicely tapped and then it is the responsibility of the teacher’s fraternity to make that child excelled in his/ her area of talent.
